Penelope Kokkinides is The Beacon of Hope for Puerto Rico’s Healthcare Crisis

Ms. Penelope Kokkinides is the Chief Administrative Officer for InnovaCare. Her recent endeavors and contribution in the United States healthcare system has brought her success into the limelight. With more than 20 years experience in the healthcare field, Ms. Kokkinides boasts a wide range of skills in developing and optimizing diverse healthcare provisions. She is a leading expert in various government run healthcare programs, including Medicaid and Medicare. Before joining the health sector, she studied for her bachelors in biological sciences and classical language at the University of Bingham. She also did her Masters in social work and public health at the University of New York.

 

Ms. Kokkinides was among eight women recently invited to the White House for a panel of Women in Healthcare. Here, she met with President Trump and also the CMS Administrator Seema Verma. Among the things they discussed included the general federal healthcare legislation and issues affecting Puerto Rico’s healthcare sector under her leadership. InnovaCare is major provider for healthcare, services, and payer. The organization serves around 467, 000 members. Apart from the plans and services InnovaCare offers within the United States, the organizations has the largest healthcare system in Puerto Rico.

 

A major challenge that InnovaCare has been facing in Puerto Rico pertained to the reduction of federal funding allocated to the Medicare Advantage program in the Island. Unlike in the States, it is estimated that the government has been reducing the program’s funding in Puerto Rico by around $1 billion annually.

 

Ms. Penelope Kokkinides reiterated to President Trump that it is important to increase the funding for Medicare Advantage in Puerto Rico. She also stressed on the importance of remaining up to date on industry development in order to provide true quality healthcare.

 

True to her words, Ms. Kokkinides leads by example at InnovaCare. For example, she spends several hours every day reading resources, books, publications and articles to keep herself updated on the healthcare industry developments. The healthcare provider also pays close attention to any developments or revolutions in the sector.

 

One of InnovaCare’s primary practices is working with networks that advance the boundaries of medical study. Ms. Kokkinides informed President Trump that decreased funding for the Medicare Advantage program in Puerto Rico would force many people to relocate to the States for affordable care. The population would overburden the healthcare system in the States by three to four times.

 

The results of the meeting were apparent in that President Trump proposed some provisions which would address the problems in Puerto Rico’s healthcare system.
